//3877 was tapped for the funky, fresh and immersive design concept of Washington DC’s first Korean barbecue venue Gogi Yogi.
The 75-seat restaurant, located in the transforming Shaw neighborhood, offers a funky-fresh design concept—from its tabletop grilling spots and tube-shaped neon lights to graffitied walls and a tin-sided bar with a white subway-tile backing— where guests are bound to feel as if they’ve just stepped into L.A.’s Koreatown. Raised near this L.A. neighborhood, Gogi Yogi owner, Daniel Kramer was inspired by his nostalgia, seeking to incorporate Koreatown motifs into the 2,700-square-foot restaurant’s design.
The layout of the restaurant is defined by the special BBQ tables, each with its own embedded grill top and ventilating system. The low aluminum stools include light wood-colored tops that act as cubbies for guests’ coats and accessories. Wishing to further infuse Korean street-style culture into the design, the restaurant’s 20-foot high walls are covered with murals of dragons, cartoon drawings, and Korean phrases by graffiti artist KeyHan.
Soon to come is a spacious outdoor patio where guests will enjoy appetizers and cocktails, all while people-watching those walking along Florida Avenue and Eighth Street.
