STG Design created a design for the remodel of Integral Care’s Richard E. Hopkins Behavioral Health Building located in Austin, Texas.
STG provided a full remodel of The Richard E. Hopkins Behavioral Health Building, including demolition, a new façade, stairs, trellis, roof, and interior. This facility was designed to function as a safe and calming environment where people can connect and grow, supporting Integral Care’s mission to assist adults and children living with mental illness, substance use disorder, and intellectual and developmental disabilities. With a robust program and modest budget, the project was designed from the inside out, laying out spaces carefully to consider natural light, sightlines, and exterior views to place windows where they would be most impactful. The exterior trellis was added to provide shade to indoor and outdoor spaces, and the addition of an exterior stair adds dimension to an otherwise boxy structure. A central core was developed for the staff to take a break from their important and challenging work and to serve as a hub for collaboration with community partners.
