brg3s architects sought to preserve the historic integrity of a mid-century building while providing a 21st century hospitality experience in the realization of the new Hotel Indigo Memphis.
Hotel Indigo is bringing a mix of Memphis histories to the heart of downtown. brg3s had a the opportunity to work with IHG to restore the historic Holiday Inn/Econo Lodge which had laid dormant for several years in downtown Memphis. The firm’s goal was to preserve the historic integrity of the mid-century modern building, while providing a fresh renovation that would bring the atmosphere of the structure into the 21st century.
The interior design celebrates Memphis’s history in the business of radio in the early to mid 20th century, producing the country’s first radio show, “Tan Town Jubilee,” which catered specifically to black listeners. Because of this the WDIA became the most popular station in the city.
The newly renovated building features a restaurant and out door dinning plaza, a new grand lobby with business center, fitness, and retail on the ground floor. The restaurant, known as 3rd & Court, serves a refined 50’s diner style food and atmosphere, Interior design by Parker Design Studio. The next six levels include the parking garage and the top three levels house the guestrooms and a pool. The interior design concept was inspired by the history of Memphis radio and mid century modernism giving victors a truly authentic and unique experience of Memphis.
