NORR designed the the William McIlvanney Campus for a vast array of ages attending this school in Kilmarnock, Scotland.

A simple, dignified series of 3 interconnected buildings combine to create a new civic campus in Kilmarnock; incorporating nursery, primary, secondary and specialist Gaelic education facilities. The external aesthetic is restrained and elegant, combining a strong sense of permanence with a controlled, open transparency revealing an interesting spatial interior punctuated by color, graphics and light. Deep reveals provide environmental control to the south, smooth elevations provide added elegance to the north. Sinuous curves identify entrances, while external courtyards and carefully positioned roof lights ensure that all parts of the building enjoy the benefits of natural light.

In scale terms the secondary school is taller, and the primary and nursery areas lower with effective planning encouraging a myriad of educational connections. A mature setting provided by the close proximity of beautiful existing tall trees create a visually attractive back drop to this carefully considered project.
