项目坐落在荷兰北部城市福兰斯里的农村地区，位于Makkinga村和Donkerbroek村中间，Makkinga住宅被隐蔽在了树丛之间。住宅的朝向和使用的材料创造了一种住宅和周围的自然环境存在对话的效果。场址上以前矗立着一栋老旧的住宅，现在被拆除了，在这样精致的环境中，老旧的住宅只有被人遗忘的份，老旧的住宅只有一扇小窗户，居住者们只有通过这扇小窗户才能欣赏外面的华丽风景。老旧住宅的北部有一个几乎是被隐藏起来的入口，住宅中的房间也很狭窄、阴冷和太通风。

新的住宅与老旧的住宅完全相反，新的住宅充分利用到了周围环境提供的自然品质。在新住宅的东边，场址面对着连接两个村庄的道路。新住宅的入口就位于这一边，与入口通道连接在一起，东边的墙壁和北边的墙壁一样是大面积封闭的状态，这样做的原因是为了保护一定程度的隐私。住宅的西边，即住宅的“生活边”，居住者们可以在这里看到Friesian农场的广阔风景，而且这个边全幅度的将建筑体量敞开了。

In the rural landscape between the villages of Makkinga and Donkerbroek in the northern province of Friesland (The Netherlands), the Makkinga house lies secluded by trees. Its orientation and use of materials create the effect of a dialogue with the surrounding natural landscape.Now demolished, the old house that originally stood on this site appeared to be oblivious to its exquisite context, offering just a single small window through which to view the magnificent landscape, an almost hidden entrance on the north side, and rooms that were cramped, cold and draughty.

The new house is its complete opposite, making full use of the natural qualities offered by its surroundings.To the east, the site faces a road connecting two villages. On this side the entrance to the house gives out on the access road, while the facade, like the one on the north side, has been kept largely closed to ensure a degree of privacy.On the west side, which is the ‘living side’ of the house, a dialogue has been created with the wide vista offered by the Friesian farmland, and the volume opens up to its full extent.
