CORE was hired as a collaborative partner in the Square 37 development to provide interior design services to EastBanc for the West End Branch Library on L Street in Northwest DC. As an expert in the library's needs and program, CORE worked closely with building design architect, TEN Arquitectos, to craft the interior space to suit DCPL. The soaring space needed to incorporate clear sightlines so that all users could easily navigate the L-shaped space. An illuminated ribbon of literary quotations spans the space over the vibrantly clad adult collection stacks. Another defining feature of the design, the children's pavilion creates an airy, yet intimate enclosure so that families and children have a space all their own. Other programmatic elements include a public meeting room to serve the community, a conference room, individual study rooms, and an open connection to a café operated by another retail tenant in the building. The project was designed to meet LEED Gold criteria.
