Nash Baker Architects 在保护历史建筑原貌的同时,成功打造出一个宁静、现代且充满艺术气息的室内空间。
Architect:Nash Baker Architects
Location:London, United Kingdom
Project Year:2016
Category:Apartments
This French inspired, large grand Grade II listed apartment block in Kensington was built between 1877 & 1879. Nash Baker Architects were commissioned to provide initial architectural advice prior to the purchase of the property and subsequently appointed to undertake a complete refresh of one of the upper floor apartments. Prior to the works commencing, Nash Baker obtained the necessary landlord’s approval and listed building consents.
Despite the apartment having been completely refurbished in 2005, the fixtures, fittings and finishes were dated and incongruous with the historic nature and grandeur of the building. Most noteworthy was the loss of architectural detailing, poor quality bathroom, kitchens, fitted joinery, as well as an abundance of chrome lights and switches! Our brief was to refresh the interiors to give a calm and modern interior which was timeless and sensitive to the historic building, whilst keeping cost to a minimum.
Our interventions included redesigning the bathrooms, and replacing the tired sanitaryware with art deco inspired pieces with Carrara marble finishes and detailing that echoed the buildings grand past. Architectural detailing such as cornicing were reintroduced and flooring changed throughout.
NBA designed new pieces of joinery throughout the property including a new free-standing bookcase to the reception room to suit the client’s existing artwork. To the bedrooms, new detailed timber doors were designed and installed on the existing carcasses to complement the panelled-style doors within the property.
Nash Baker Architects worked closely with Jack Trench Kitchens and the main contractor to facilitate the installation of a contemporary bespoke oak and Corian galley kitchen.
Other challenges during the project included upgrading the property’s services and minimising disruption to other residents.
