The government of the State of Baja California, México organized a competition among the most representative architectural firms in the country to design the Pabellón Cultural de la República (The Republic Cultural Pavilion) as legacy for the inhabitants of Baja California and Mexico and the always welcome visitors.

For the government of the State of Baja California it was imperative to have a space to promote a wide variety of cultural events and also a great example of the contemporary architecture done in our country. The project that achieved the very high expectations of Baja California Sur inhabitants was the one presented by Serrano Monjaraz Arquitectos in association with Serrano Arquitectos Asociados.

The nature of the professional and personal relationship between the government of Baja California, API and Serrano Monjaraz Arquitectos was base in experience, honesty and ethics. It was shown during the presentation of the project and career of Serrano Monjaraz Arquitectos that they had all the elements to fulfill the objectives and needs of the project respecting the times and keeping constant communication with the client.

This amazing group of buildings was designed by Juan Pablo Serrano Orozco and Rafael Monjaraz Fuentes in association with Serrano Arquitectos Asociados. The construction started in 2009 and is located in Los Cabos, Baja California Sur, México, in the northwest of Mexico, with an area of 55’700 square meters just in front of the bay.

It is a cultural complex formed by five buildings connected by corridors the visitors can use to get from one building to the other, or just for a recreational walk. The different buildings were located surrounding the central garden. The museum is a magnificent box of 200 meters long. The theater is a volume shaped according to the geology of the mountains in the background. It also has an agora for open space events.

The library is a tilted building. The pavilion celebrates the culture of Mexico and the world. Its first phase – the theater – was completed in December of 2010 and for the opening ceremony events were presented both in the agora and theater. The renowned international artists that performed in the theater acknowledge it as one of the best concert halls in the world.
