作为一个项目的设计和实施者，建筑事务所Atelier Michal Hagara在本项目中的任务是，改造一个位于布拉格市中心相对较新的中型公寓，以满足其住户——一对四海为家的夫妇的需求，同时符合其身份地位。本项目的设计灵感和概念来自于现代主义建筑和建筑师对位于布尔诺的Tugendhat住宅的喜爱，采用较为随性的空间设计，而不像意识形态那样正式。对于一直在四处奔波的住户来说，这间公寓应该是他们在布拉格的一个会客空间和落脚点，因此，建筑师希望将这里打造为一个宁静且舒适的居住空间，并通过一种纯粹的、简单却精确的几何图形概念，辅以由精湛的工艺打造的华丽的材料尺度，在公寓空间中加入一些趣味性元素。建筑师将整个公寓空间当作一个整体的艺术作品看待，就像建筑师密斯·凡·德·罗在20世纪20年代末设计的Tugendhat住宅一样。所有的构件都具有关联性，不断地彼此呼应或彼此对比。

由开发商主导的公寓原始布局并不那么尽如人意。考虑到居住建筑的潜在要求，建筑师不得不按照平面图上的空间划分，根据其自身的设计概念和住户的需求，来创造一系列相互堆叠的功能区。整个空间都充斥着一种漂浮性，各个区域和谐共处，相互交流和融合。清晰的空间组织形式创造出一种平静感，一个典雅的居住功能空间，同时，它们也是生活的一部分。

厨房的部分空间配有电气用具和一个隐藏的食品储藏室，该空间中包含了一个较小的备餐区和食品储藏区，通过格栅与其他空间分开，可以从厨房空间进入。而厨房中岛则像是一个由整块石料加工而成的雕塑，竖立在一个手工切割的铝制平台上，均衡地悬浮在空间中，仿佛是一搜豪华游艇在港口缓慢航行。厨房空间是主要生活空间的一部分。此外，建筑师还使用了一些最新的技术，在炉灶的上方抽油烟机的位置处悬挂了一个醒目的灯具。

The original layout of the apartment as well as the arrangement by the developer were not solved just happily. With regard to the potential of the residential building, I had to literally trench down the floor plan, adapt it to my intention and to the needs of the clients and create mutually overlapping functional zones. The floating space is oriented to the pair, their coexistence, communication and proximity. Clear forms are not disturbing, they provide functionality in an elegant habitat, and are a kind of painting canvass for life itself.

Part of the kitchen unit with appliances and a hidden pantry cabinet (separated by raster) with a smaller food preparation area and food storage are accessible from the kitchen space. A kitchen island – a sculpture like processed monolith, air-balancing above floor level on a hand-cut aluminium platform – can evoke a luxurious yacht slowly sailing by a harbour. The kitchen area is a recognized and fully-fledged part of the main living area. The use of up-to-date technologies has given me occasion for a little joke – above the cook top, an outstanding light object hangs in the place where the cooker hood is usually located.
