The project is a new spa for Vomo Resort on Vomo Island, Fiji. The site is located at the heart of the island’s natural garden in a thick stand of broad canopy tropical trees and coconut palms on the spectacular lowland peninsula of the Island. The project comprises volcanic stone walls, water gardens, botanical gardens, and wedge-shaped roofs around a raised courtyard platform.
The traditional big roof of the Pacific region is re-interpreted and reinvigorated by contemporary geometry and designed to capture the cooling sea breezes. The stone walls organize both interior and exterior spaces and define the views that vary from open and expansive to closed and private. The water and botanical gardens work themselves into every part of the project contributing to every space and view.
