Set on a spacious 10-acre site near the quaint seaside village of Merricks sits a rustic timber-clad building called Merricks Guest House. Shrouded in lush foliage and vines, it was no longer an elegant guesthouse, but an old country outhouse, until Studio Esteta stepped in.

Studio Esteta left no trace of the dilapidated outhouse in its renovation, but kept its authentic connection to the beautiful surroundings. They honed the project with meticulous detail and a down-to-earth approach, designing high-end accommodation Spaces that can be shared.

The client wanted to retain the beautiful sheen of the exterior, so the studio reduced interference, in addition to introducing new openings to maximize light and determine location. The studio ensured the role of the landscape, with the main residence's swimming pool and lush landscaping designed by Eckersley Garden Architecture.

Inside, the flow of light into each area also comes down to some quality spatial planning. The building includes two bedrooms, a bathroom and a European-style laundry, while the kitchen, living and dining areas adhere to an open plan. To keep the interior in harmony with the exterior, the studio insists on using natural materials dominated by wood and grey marble.

The Studio Esteta design team put a lot of emphasis on joinery, and their Merricks Guesthouse is no exception. Full-height wood-lined joinery pods provide storage for the open-plan living area, bringing a warm feel and stitching together the kitchen space. Even better, the wood joinery behind the dining space hides the bathroom and offers some beautiful garden views.
