Location: Venice, Metropolitan City of Venice, Italy
Design: Alberto Caiola
Brand: Crash Baggage
Alberto Caiola turned an 18th-century Venice villa into a blank canvas for luggage company Crash Baggage.
Key features
Pairing 'minimalist simplicity' with 'total flexibility', the workspace communicates Crash Baggage's brand values: playfulness, respect for the process and spontaneity. 'Crash Baggage as a brand is all about the attitude,' says Caiola. 'My goal was to create a blank canvas for this attitude to fully express itself.' The designer put a new spin on the historical villa, retaining much of its classical spirit while infusing bright colours – mostly Crash Baggage's trademark sunshine-yellow hue – and industrial elements. A central corridor serves as a core hub and place for events and exhibitions, and it connects auxiliary workspaces, which are fitted with modular furnishings such as sofas, desks and mobile storage systems.
Frame's take
Alberto Caiola's tasteful incorporation of contemporary elements into a historical space manifest the juxtaposition in Crash Baggage's values. At once playful and precise – its high-performance, pre-dented suitcases take a renegade approach to luxury travel wares – the brand required a space establishing that culture for employees and emanating it to clients. The new additions do not overpower the existing space; on the contrary, the mix sets an atmosphere that carefully balances activity and relaxation.
