A waterworks is a
that supplies water to the local community where the function of the building often gets more attention than its aesthetics. That's why a well-chosen detail on the facade can mean so much more to the overall look of the building. This is the case with Søndervig's new and modern waterworks, completed in the summer of 2022.With the harsh West Jutland weather and wind in mind - and considering the particularly exposed facade facing west - the building is clad with durable materials. Jacob Frimor, owner of Fungerium, the architectural firm behind the design of the waterworks, explains:
Rockpanel Stones (Mineral Rust)
Rockpanel Stones (Concrete Platinum)
Rockpanel Colour (RAL7016)
The facade of the building, which in addition to the waterworks houses administration and a workshop, is clad with Rockpanel facade boards, which according to the architect are ideal for buildings in West Jutland. They are impact-resistant and easy to work with and maintain. Jacob Frimor talks about the facade cladding, which helps create the balanced expression that characterises the waterworks:
To support the vision to create a building that blends in with its surroundings, the colour palette chosen for the facade is inspired by nature and the rustic surroundings. Three different designs were chosen to make a visual statement.
says Anette Løff Hornung, architectural consultant at Rockpanel.
“While the lower parts of the waterworks appear in a concrete look and in completely dark shades, the rust colour helps to create some play in the height. At the same time, the rust-coloured part, reminiscent of corten steel, is where you find the perforation detail.”
