Terrafertil is located in Quito’s financial center. It is located in one of the first LEED accredited officebuildings in Ecuador. The brief from the company was to create a unique space that not only performed thefunction of housing the innovative brand but should also serve as an icon of beautiful and bold design.Theclients interest and collaboration in both interior design and decoration from the beginning was key for theproject's overall success.The project Terrafertil is a single-floor office with an approximate area of 350 m².The space was acombination of 3 standard offices purchased by the client to be designed into one dynamic space for theirbrand.

The architectural design combines a series of both open and closed architectural elements. For the closedelements a system of draping wood forms and their triangulated wood skin were created to mimic nature’sgrowth and dynamism. This formal exercise was used in the private meeting rooms and entrancelobby.The wood forms are used as the primary structure to organize, distribute and define the spatialsequencing.The useof 663 custom CNC wood panels with a steel frame structure, was key in achievingthe sculptural forms designed to separate the different interior spaces.The use ofrenewable wood veneerwas chosen as the primary material for its rich and diverse characteristics.

The “in between” spaces are open work spaces and informal meeting areas. These spaces have openceilings, which use the full height of the ceiling and incorporate the existing concrete slabs. By usingdifferent ceiling heights in the interior, the different spatial and material hierarchies are emphasized.Theworkstations incorporate planters that function as dividers and offer a decorative harmony betweenmaterials.Additionally, the architectural program includes an open lobby. The inviting waiting area is covered by asimilar wood paneling system whichhas multiple functions; a welcoming point for clients and employees,a spatial divider, a product display and the seating for the waiting area.

The lobby desk was designed toshowcase the client’s products. These flagship products can be consumed by visitors and workers and arepart of the overall experience.Within the seating area, a triangulated wall frames a pentagonal window through which one can spot thecustom-fabricated experimental kitchen. The kitchen is integral for the innovative development of thecompany’s product line. The cabinetry is fabricated completely out of stainless steel for quality control andreflects the warm glow of the neighboring wood panels.This transparency allows customers to learn moreabout the client’s innovative products and how they make new creations under high standards.

To complement the architecture, the interior decor incorporates the playfulness of nature inspired colorsand textures. This isdemonstrated by custom textiles, furniture and the selection of art pieces that energizethe space and brings forth an emotion experience. This careful balance of architecture elements, materialselection and decoration creates a unique and invigorating work space.The end result has been anexemplary model of collaboration and innovation through the guidance of a company’s ideology.
