At three times the size of New York’s Central Park, spanning 1000 hectares, the Amsterdam Forest is among Europe’s largest city parks.
NAPSTUDIO has carefully reflected the Amsterdam Forest brand values in the new interior design: it is tough, accessible and energetic, with urban character. Moreover the remarkable story behind the construction of the park is brought to life in the elements and materials integrated in the interior.
The design consists of big, tough movable display-carts. The construction of the window-tables is in line with the structural design of the building: steel H-beam constructions under a 70° angle. The double window-tables have a children and adult height. The information desk is shaped like a large iconic wheelbarrow, in reference to the many wheelbarrows used to create the forest.
The service area of the building with toilets, wardrobes and elevator used to be a dark and undefined space. By creating a large forest inspired wall with Elm and Ash shelfs placed at 45° vertical on the wall and backlighted by LED, the visitors are drawn to the light and thus find their way to the public services.
Throughout the interior a number of small Elm branches can be attached (or re-arranged) to any of the metal construction-parts of the building with an ingenious magnetic construction.
