Project Year:2019
Category:Apartments
A modern 60s apartment in a traditional and elegant neighborhood in Buenos Aires turns out to be an interesting chimera, with a contemporary, spacious layout and classical decorative plaster moldings. The clients were adamant in keeping these romantic embellishments so the challenge was to create a stylish yet modernized look.
With this premise, the project chooses to play with this tension between new and classical, what is genuine and what is fake, what is original and what has been modified. A strict monochromatic palette restrains all these contradictions, cleans the visuals and provides an anchor that unifies, in a harmonious way, more than 50 years’ worth of architectural interventions.
The results are subtle, but the work behind it was precise and intense: bathrooms were renovated, walls torn down, and new spaces were created to adapt the apartment to the needs of the owners and achieve sophisticated and luminous rooms.
