As it stands the building known as Clerkenwell Workshops is a centre for small and medium enterprises that have a focus on crafts and creative arts. Since the turn of the twentieth century the building has undergone a variety of uses but it remains an example of this kind of 'creative neighbourhood' which can still be found in certain areas of London.

Mackay + Partners brief was to reinforce this use, maintaining a vibrant mix of existing businesses while rejuvenating and upgrading the existing building constraints.
