Thysse is a family owned and operated graphics company dedicated to its people. In just seven years the design, print, and environmental branding company had outgrown its existing space twice requiring their team to spread across multiple buildings. Thysse sought to bring all employees back under a single roof in a new headquarters building geared towards the future. It was important for the new space seamlessly integrate their business and production components while being forward-thinking in both technology integration and expansion opportunities.

At nearly triple their existing space, the new Thysse headquarters offers room to grow and improves internal connections between office and production spaces, allowing staff to work together more efficiently. Situated on an industrial site with a natural marsh to the south and east and bike trails adjacent, the building capitalizes on its site as well as natural daylighting opportunities by being oriented north-south on the east end of the site. This orientation also engages the landscape and allows for future production expansion to the west.

Circulation and functional layout were critical, with a central lobby that had to serve as both an identifiable entry point for a branded visitor experience and as a connector between multi-level distinct work environments and the production floor.

In the lobby, a monumental stair has both impact and function. Upper level links along the exterior glass walls serve as important features for viewing as well as connecting the office with the production facility. Micro-environments for work areas were individually considered and designed to accommodate unique functions, such as sales, design, customer service, and accounting. Each have views to the exterior and marsh; patio areas at both first and second levels provide direct access to the exterior and the bike path connection. Deep overhangs protect these areas and address the marsh in their orientation.

Future growth was critical to the design of the building. The office has the capacity for staff to nearly double in size and devotes nearly 5,500 square feet to shared amenity spaces. This state-of-the-art facility celebrates Thysse’s branding and purpose on the interior and exterior through use of color, lighting and signage.
