HDR Architecture's Kingston, Ontario, office has relocated to the Smith Robinson Building in Downtown Kingston. The building, which was originally built in the mid 1800s, is one of the original downtown commercial buildings in the city. HDR occupies a space on the top floor that was designed to preserve the historic nature of the space while reflecting new ways of working and modern office design.

The design of the office reflects the local identity of HDR, North America's second largest architecture firm. As a nod to the region's history as the fresh water capital of Canada, an expansive nautical map of the Kingston area adorns a custom panel system near the office's main entrance. The detailing of installations and preservation of original materials throughout the space also celebrates the rich craft, workmanship and skill that has defined the Kingston area for so long.

The contemporary office complements HDR's long-standing presence in Kingston. The office has become one of HDR's key Canadian design studios, working on some of the firm's largest healthcare, science + technology, and civic projects.
