The Martin Bauer Group is a global leader in tea and botanical ingredients that are processed using rigorous certified methods. The layout for this 11,460 RSF office and lab space located in Secaucus, NJ evolved during the Schematic Design Phase by accommodating various adjacencies and requirements by the client which included conference room sizes and locations, integration of lab space and storage. The challenge was to develop a dynamic and functional space plan that also met the program requirements in the context of the building's octagon shape and multiple angles of the space perimeter. There are (4) distinct labs which include a client interfacing area counter for flavors and tea tastings - 1. Application lab (700 SF), 2. Extract lab (550 SF), 3. Herbal lab (250 SF) and 4.Tea lab (650 SF) that has a large counter for client meetings and tastings. All labs have acoustical clean room ceiling tiles and the open areas feature a baffle system that allowed the ceiling height to be preserved as well as provide sound attenuation, lighting space for sprinklers and hides the ductwork. The layout separates the reception and conference spaces at the entrance providing ample meeting space away from the main work area. There are (4) small conference rooms, (1) large conference room; as well as (2) phone rooms for privacy calls. One of the requirements was to have the conference rooms looking into the atrium of the building allowing natural light into the space. The entrance corridor entering into the space continues throughout the rest of the office dividing labs on the left and office desks on the right. The color scheme was very consistent and simple. Concrete floor isles created a modern and industrial. Conference rooms and work areas were carpeted with a grey, non-directional weave tile and labs had a grey rubber floor sheeting with a green accent stripe at the entrance. Light grey, dark grey and white with accents of green tones added visual interest. A few walls were selected to receive a full scale photo mural showing locations of tea farms. The graphics throughout the space show the development of teas and herbs from raw materials to the finished product. The reception area features a Corian wall with Martin Bauer Group's logo and a complimentary white desk with an organic, flowing shape. Both were meant to evoke a clean and inviting feeling with simple organic details.
