The 37th Annual Dulux Colour Awards is quickly approaching, with Dulux elevating the awards program to deliver a landmark industry event. In addition to showcasing the high calibre of work from this year’s entrants, Dulux will bring together Australia’s leading architectural, design and cultural heavyweights to curate an unforgettable evening celebrating the industry’s success.
Five of Australia and New Zealand’s most respected architects and designers will lead the judging panel to honour our urban fabric’s residential, commercial and public spaces, demonstrating the innovative and considered use of colour. The elite panel includes Director of B.E Architecture, Andrew Piva; Interdisciplinary Designer and Director of his eponymous studio, Brahman Perera; Senior Interior Designer of Snøhetta, Lisa Lee; Project Director of CTRL Space, Sarah Carney; and Director of Russell & George, Byron George.
Dulux Colour and Communications Manager, Andrea Lucena-Orr, is thrilled to welcome this illustrious group to the 2023 Dulux Colour Awards. “Chosen for their expertise and dedication to design and architecture, this year’s jurors bring a wealth of experience and an array of valuable perspectives,” says Andrea.

Jury member, Brahman Perera, is eager to offer his perspective on the profound impact colour can have on our experience of the built environment. “The choice of colour in architecture has an overwhelming effect on how a building is perceived,” says Brahman. “As a first-time judge, I can’t wait to see and review the colourful and inventive submissions of some of Australia and New Zealand’s best architects and designers and explore our perceptions of the effect colour can have within a space.”
The judges will examine the entries across six categories: Commercial Interior — Workplace & Retail; Commercial Interior — Public & Hospitality; Commercial & Multi-Residential Exterior; Residential Interior; Single Residential Exterior; and Student AU & NZ (Years 1-6).
The judging panel will also select from the Australian category winners and New Zealand category finalists to arrive at a winner for the coveted Australian Grand Prix and New Zealand Grand Prix awards. Along with wide acclaim and industry recognition, all individual and business category winners will have their projects showcased on an international scale, amplified via promotional activity on Dulux-owned digital platforms and other parties where appropriate. In addition to the above, Student (Years 1-6) award winners will receive a separate monetary prize.

Dulux Colour Awards 2023 will culminate at an event held at Space & Time designed by Russell & George. “One space, multiple functions, multiple businesses, multiple human experiences governed by only one factor, a particular time of day.” See more about this remarkable project here.
The Dulux Colour Awards program recognises the exemplary use of colour within architecture and design, culminating in a spectacular award evening held at Space & Time, a venue in inner city Melbourne accoladed for its transformative use of design by architecture studio Russell & George. Australian design visionaries Dana Tomić Hughes (Yellowtrace) and Sarah-Jane Pyke (Arent & Pyke) will co-host this year’s event. “As a huge fan of colour and its magical powers to transform our built environment, I’m excited to be hosting an event that celebrates a medium close to my heart while honouring the talent of our amazing design industry,” says Dana. “To do it with one of my dearest friends, Sarah-Jane Pyke, is a cherry on top!”
The venue will be complemented with sculptural floral installations by artist Hattie Molloy, while the culinary delights will be served by one of Australia’s most acclaimed restaurateurs, Andrew McConnell’s Handmade Events. A selection of beverages inspired by the 2023 Dulux Colour Forecast will be mixed by one of Australia’s most-awarded drinks experts, Joe Jones.
Dulux Colour and Communications Manager, Andrea Lucena-Orr says this year’s Dulux Colour Awards provides an opportunity for those within the architectural and design industries to come together and those within broader cultural fields — where colour plays an equally important role. “Colour is such an integral element within the design, extending far beyond architecture and interior design,” Andrea says. “We’re so excited to partner with Australia’s top design and cultural talent to create an esteemed awards evening and celebrate the finalists and winning projects within this year’s program.”
