The circular economy is a way of life for Charlotte Cadé and Maxime Brousse. ‘Sell, bargain-hunt, resell, and back again. The decoration loop is never closed,’ says Charlotte, explaining the ethos behind Selency, the couple’s online destination for vintage furniture lovers.

Founded back in 2014, it connects sellers and sourcers of secondhand designs to people searching for that special piece.

When you have access to that much retro inspiration, though, it can be hard to say no to the next fantastic find. Charlotte and Maxime, it seems, certainly don’t like to turn down a gem.

Their Parisian Haussmannian apartment is in constant flux. ‘I’m crazy about change,’ admits Charlotte. ‘I like my interior to be alive. I buy and resell all the time because it allows me to try things, make mistakes, and sometimes find the ideal mix.’

Creating a backdrop that would complement rather than clash with this varied cast of furniture was the tricky task given to the couple’s long-time friend, architect Bertille Bordja. She concentrated on the big picture, opening up the apartment’s layout and maximising natural light.

Walls were removed to create one combined living and dining space with an open-plan kitchen – a practical layout for a family with two young children. The colour palette was kept neutral, for the most part. It’s a restrained approach that allows this home’s original features to shine, while creating a sense of serenity for a decorative scheme in perpetual motion.

Asked what her current vintage obsession is, Charlotte points to anything rattan or wicker.

‘They’re timeless materials that go with everything!’ Really, though, it’s the history and story of an item that attracts this entrepreneurial duo.
