The design USES bamboo, a natural material, instead of conventional methods such as weaving, and USES linear components to generate volume to form a skin structure with spatial depth. Later, the epidermis was developed and integrated into the structure itself, with the main keel forming the frame and the secondary keel stabilizing the structure. The epidermis members in the three directions finally fixed the structure, and the repetition was used to generate the texture, presenting different spatial logic inside and outside. The spatial depth of the epidermis provides shading without affecting ventilation and is adapted to lingnan climate. In terms of form, the bamboo corridor is guaranteed to serve as a passage, and the function of staying and resting is added, as well as the viewing level. A large amount of repetition forms a fluffy effect similar to that of bird feathers. The final effect breaks away from people’s inherent impression of bamboo and enriches the expressive force of bamboo in space.
This corridor design is not limited to “Inanimate Objects” which is access for pedestrians, but we create a relationship between humans and nature through the function, shape, and meaning of design. Organic architecture is the theme adopted in this design planning, focusing on the main character of energy and natural elements, remain sustainable and always in a dynamic state.
This is the ideal where human and birds meet. To appreciate the dynamic of bird migration, the design of pavilion is influenced by the flapping movement of the wings. Each pavilion unit is a module. Many modules can be combined into a flock of flapping birds. They create the endlessness of bird journey through their migration. Cycle of migration can continue forever, as same as the pavilion can connect into endless destination. More interestingly, the roof of pavilion purposely designed to house the rest place during the migration. Thus, it is where human and birds meet at this proper place. It is where both are searching for.
The inspiration of the overall shape comes from Cartier Trinity, the classic jewelry series of Cartier. Similar to this classic three-ring ring, these three pairs of rings also represent the three most beautiful things in the world: family affection, friendship and love. Three pairs of bamboo circle, each trace, each triangle body closely connected, will be the mark of happiness. The curved and extended deck is like a long rope, with three pairs of rings. The ring we have given is not only a simple meaning of love, but also an attempt to give the blessing of future life to everyone who passes through it. Their love and companion days are as long as this bridge, which is the best interpretation of the meaning of “more than”.
“RHIZOMA” In other words, bamboo is a symbol of the unity of Chinese society, where the pattern of root movements spreads in one compo. unite and work together to build a new and fast population behind it, Fhizome “is a supporter of that growth, where the rhizomes in the bomboo plant are stems that can produce waves and improve the Corridor, RHIZOME which is the main foothold to be explored to add selected architecture. To create a good workspace and also important points of interest for the experience and experience of each step can be done separately, both directly and directly, whatever needs to be done.
The work form resembles water bird, two wing to outside pick out, tensioned cable net gives birth to form, bamboo piece is disorderly braid into a surface. The surrounding on both sides of the cantilever gradually weakens, dissolving the internal and external boundaries, and attracting tourists to cross the curved corridor. The line of sight extends with the cantilever on the other end, creating a long visual sequence and bringing continuous spatial experience.
“Phoenix as a symbol of joy and prosperity” A symbol of the Empress, high virtue and grace, the“King of Birds”inspired this design with its representation of utmost peace, prosperity and happiness which are intended to be experience by visitors. The concept is expressed through the design that allows connection between visitors and the surrounding nature to replicate a breezy and relaxing ambience and thus stimulate the sense of calmness, joy and comfortable experience for the visitors.Just like how the Phoenix only appears in rare ancient treasures, which people believe are places they stopped and rest, this concept celebrate Nansha Bird Park with its close proximity to the ocean and excellent ecological environment that cause this bird park to become the “paradise for birds” that attract more than 100 species of migrant birds every year. Works Features With its continuous curves of bamboo structure, the design is intended to deliver a sense of motion that represent the freedom of movement a Phoenix can have. The wide openings for both sides of the entrance elevate the feelings of openness and peace for the visitors upon entering the structure. Seating is also provided to improve the experience of peace calmness and pure joy in the structure.
“One of the requirements for a bird to fly is a structure that combines strength with light weight.” -Kathleen E. Allen The concept starts from the observation of the x-ray photo of a birds’wing structure. Designing a bamboo pavilion in a birds’ park and in a special geographical area in Guangzhou, the wetlands, home for a huge biodiversity, inspired us to look at structures in Nature. Being site specific means for us looking to the local characteristics through a different view point. No directly. What in the site inspire us to make architecture, to drive a shape? And looking at the bamboo as a structural element made a natural connection with the birds’skeleton, fragile in appearance but strong in resistance.
The construction is made up of pure geometric forms, forming a keel through the special rotation of the main element — the arch, and meanwhile forming a rich circulation line. The middle part is a small scale space for children. Imitate the nest, better blend into the water bird world environment, through the horizontal connection not only strengthen the rich skeleton, surrounded by a comfortable version of the full, full of interesting space.
Majority of people are living in urban areas nowadays, experiencing harmful consequences of unavoidable noise pollution in the city. Our design intends to let visitors experience the wonderful sound of nature, creating a unique experience along the corridor, allowing people to stay away from the hustle and bustle of the city and get closer to nature. In our design, we use nature sound as the main dynamic element by gathering and amplifying all the nature sound in Nansha bird park. It is a bridge that resonates with the symphony of nature, making it a musical instrument in the park.
In the woods, we innovatively introduced the form of bubbles. The shiny surface of the bubble shows that it is not natural products, but it reflects the surrounding insects, fish, birds and animals and the blue sky and green trees, quiet and light, but set off the fresh nature of the woods. As a corridor, the bubble not only connects the path and the forest, but also connects people and nature, arousing people’s attention and yearning for the beautiful things in nature.
In the midst of the hectic city life, who doesn’t want to cut all loose and find an ideal utopia for the rest of their lives? Although the utopia is hard to gain access to, one’s willingness to finding it will not fade away. This project has a narrow entrance, then an open atrium and lastly a spacious exit. One could experience the transformation of space and the substitution of the shines and shades by going from and forth in it. Moreover, the simplistic beauty and the consoling views could also let its patronisers sense peacefulness and stillness within the busyness of daily life.
The non-standard size bamboo is adopted, and based on the traditional reciprocal bearing sphere and cylinder, the parametric calculation is carried out to obtain the ellipsoid and saddle surface, which are mainly reciprocal bearing, like a floating peanut in the overall shape.
Borrow the image that bamboo sways living appearance when the breeze rises gently in nansha water bird park, generate the form of the wave that is full of feeling, bamboo is in three-dimensional twist the collision that shows oneself flexibility and strength, aim at reflecting its feeling rhythm, combine with the landscape of red stork beach, make the observation space that is full of change. Breeze light, bamboo sway, tide ze look at each other, people and birds coexist.
A dynamic wing shape is constructed by combining deformation and torsion of straight curved surface and traction of steel cable. It gives its wings the rhythm of a heartbeat, like the feathers of a water bird falling on the waters of the spratlys.
The site is a birds park which we has analyzed and interpreted to “hear without body” when entered to a birds park, even we can’t even see birds but we can hear it. So this led to the interpretation of an architecture concept. Trying to faceless to create a shape that float in the wind like a bird swaying. The concept is to create a perception of birds so we search for a curve of sound and we found that a bird sound waves that has a special character and bamboo curtain can affect visibility, creating a natural continuation space.
