Project Description
Occupying an entire “L” shaped floor plan in Porto Alegre, Brazil, this office comprises 24 rooms in two different types — either for one lawyer or two —, one conference room for 24 seats, and five meeting rooms, being one circular, one polygonal and three rectangular.
Two inner spaces are occupied by trainee lawyer workplaces, seven assistant secretaries, a library and an archive. The main circulation uses the periphery of the space, next to the glass façades, which enables beautiful views for workers and visitors, and creates a protection from the outside heat, thus saving energy with air conditioning. All parts are accessible through a large reception area and two secondary lateral entrances, all connected by two circulation systems: internal, for services, and external, for lawyers and clients. This composition strategy emulates the city’s urban tissue, where internal circulation forms “streets”, offices and meeting rooms form “blocks”, while reception and other meeting points form “squares”. The floor surface is 100% customized, made from local basalt pieces, cut one by one, forming triangles and then hexagons. Wherever necessary due to acoustics, the floor is covered with carpet tiles. The main idea was to design a contemporary and light corporate office, for a global range law office, but that’s Brazilian in its core — and local as well, founded in the southern city of Porto Alegre. Furniture was chosen among renowned modern Brazilian designers, and classical elements are used too, such as Iranian carpets symmetrically disposed on an asymmetrical entrance. Thus, modernity and tradition, abstraction and complexity come together to express competence, agility and solidity inherent to Souto Correa Advogados’ services.
