The two partners met in 1990 during their apprenticeship as building draftsmen. While Antonino Tramparulo was completing his architectural studies in Geneva, Maurizio Tempesta continued his studies at the Mendrisio Academy of Architecture and EPFL. In 2003, they met to win the Montreux City Hall contest together.
