Bergmeyer is drawn to working with companies who want to transform their markets. Challenging the conventions of commercial real estate by creating coworking environments that propel creativity, WeWork is changing the game. And as WeWork sought to grow rapidly in Boston, they needed design partners who were well-versed in Boston’s architectural landscape and challenging permitting process. With our reputation for creating unique built environments and our experience with branded workplaces and corporate headquarters, we were an easy fit.

Our first assignment was to help WeWork evaluate a wide variety of potential locations. This required us to first ​“get” their program, their vision, and their market approach at an incontrovertible level, and then to rapidly assess the compatibility of entire floor plates of historic, vintage modern, and newly completed buildings. Our first completed project encompassed three floors of One Beacon Street, built in the early ​’70s on the edge of Beacon Hill – bringing new energy to a staid and conservative Boston landmark.

WeWork’s location in Boston’s Seaport District presented an opportunity to establish the brand in the rapidly developing neighborhood. The space is housed in a new mixed-use development that provides the workplace element in a building with retail, restaurant, fitness, and luxury apartments.

Bergmeyer works hand-in-hand with WeWork’s in-house design team to ensure that their brand standards are seamlessly implemented. Despite the many challenges presented by different spaces and a typically tight schedule, the agile and responsive Bergmeyer team ensures that WeWork’s success metrics are consistently met.

After (at last count) eleven projects and over 800,000 square feet of space in around two years, Bergmeyer has become – more than just consultants – one of WeWork’s strategic design partners in the Boston market.
