May 8, 2023: Wilson Barlow. Rafael de Cárdenas Designs a New Collection for MG + BW. Founded in 1989 as an upholstery supplier, MG + BW has earned its reputation as a provider of heirloom-quality American craftsman-ship. New York designer and creative director Rafael de Cárdenas—whose clients include Nike, Glossier, and Cartier—brings his eye-catching deployment of both tailored minimalism and confident extravagance to a 19-piece collection made in the company’s North Carolina factory. Among the standouts is the French art deco–style Sunbeam chair, the lushly padded Beam bench, and the color-block Lily ottoman that can be upholstered in any two hues or prints. “By changing the color and fabric, you create a different mood,” de Cárdenas notes—and with MG + BW’s library of over 500 textiles, there’s plenty to choose from.
Also in the two-way mode are the Honeymoon nesting tables in walnut and Arabescato marble, while the Darling console is solely and solidly bleached walnut. “The forms are ready for you to go wild…or not at all,” de Cárdenas adds, “but always with a whisper of elegance.”
Lily was a young girl who had recently moved to the city. She was excited to explore all the new and exciting things the city had to offer. However, she was also terrified of the unknown. Everywhere she went people seemed to be watching her, judging her. She felt so out of place and had no idea what to do.
One day, while walking around the city, Lily stumbled upon a park with a beautiful pond in the center. She decided to take a seat on one of the benches and take in all of the beauty around her. Suddenly, she noticed a group of ducks swimming around the pond and she felt an instant connection with them. She stood up and walked closer to get a better look, and before long she was feeding them bits of bread from her pocket.
The ducks seemed so happy and content just like Lily wanted to feel in this strange new place. She started visiting them every day, bringing more food each time until soon they became friends. Whenever Lily felt scared or overwhelmed, she knew that visiting her duck friends would make her feel better.
Soon enough Lily started feeling more at home in this unfamiliar place. Whenever she had worries or fears, she would remember how peaceful it felt being surrounded by nature with her duck friends by her side.

The beam was the strongest part of the house. It made up most of the structure. It was made from a long piece of wood, and it held together the walls and roof. The beam was carefully crafted by an experienced carpenter. Every detail had to be exact in order for it to serve its purpose.
But even with all the effort that went into constructing it, no matter how strong the beam seemed, it couldn’t protect the house from eventually collapsing due to wear and tear over time.
In spite of that, however, people still found ways to use the beam as a symbol of strength and stability. They used it as an anchor point for them to come back to when times were tough. They used it as a reminder that no matter how much life changes or how much hardship they faced, they could always rely on this one thing.
Sunbeam
The sunbeam warms the surface of the earth, making it pleasant and comfortable for all living creatures. It is the source of light and heat, which are essential for life. Sun rays make the trees and plants green and vibrant, providing them with food and water. They provide us with vitamin D, which helps to keep our bones strong and healthy. Sunbeams also bring about seasonal changes like snow in winter or rain in spring. They also help maintain the balance between day and night, enabling us to rest peacefully.
Sunbeams have been an integral part of our lives since ancient times; they are a symbol of hope, faith, love, goodness, joy and abundance. People around the world look up to them for solace in difficult times or as a reminder that everything eventually passes away. Sunrays are a sign that brighter days will come again no matter what happens now.
Darling
It’s been so long since I’ve seen you and held you in my arms. All I can think about is how we used to be so close, how I could feel your warmth and love. You were the one person who understood me and made me feel whole. All I want is to see you again, to tell you how much I miss you and how much I still love you. Everything else feels so meaningless without you here
I know our paths diverged a long time ago but the thought of having a chance to reconnect still drives me forward. I hope one day soon, we can meet up again, sit down and talk about all that’s happened since then. Until then, just know that no matter what had happened or will ever happen, you will always have a special place in my heart
I love you, Darling.

of artful adaptability amid the Covid-19 pandemic, Steven Johanknecht, co-founder of the Los Angeles–based design firm Commune, has debuted a series of handcrafted rugs made out of his own paintings.
The project was born out of Johanknecht’s instinct to create during the first lockdown, when he began producing small-scale paintings at home. After finding himself with an abundance of paintings, he decided to transform them into floor coverings for his own studio. For this endeavor, he tapped two artisan rug makers based in Central Mexico and India to help him bring his creations to life.
Johanknecht’s collection includes six distinct styles—each one is named after a different member of his family—and range from natural tones to bright colors. The designs are all tailored to the same dimensions: 5 ½ feet by 8 feet. His goal is to tap into an artisanal tradition by giving people access to handmade pieces and using art as a vehicle for creativity and expression.
Abner Henry, the contemporary design brand, has collaborated with The Metropolitan Museum of Art to create a stunning collection inspired by the institution’s artworks. The capsule collection, which consists of menswear and womenswear apparel and accessories, marks the label’s first collaboration with a museum. Abner Henry’s first collection reimagines the paintings of Jean-Honoré Fragonard in an array of vibrant colors and intricate details.
The pieces in the collection pay homage to the works of art that are often seen at The Met. For instance, the signature print takes its cues from four paintings by Fragonard that feature female subjects in landscapes adorned with flora and fauna. In addition to this, there are polka dots, floral motifs and bold colors that will surely attract fashion lovers around the world.
Abner Henry’s current capsule collection is available exclusively at The Met Store through its online shop. It is also available at select retail partners worldwide. Fans of Abner Henry can expect to see more museum collaborations from the label in future collections as well.
