I’ve been writing for over a decade now, and I’ve learned that it’s important to pay attention to the structure of a piece. Paragraphs are the building blocks of any written work, and they should be used strategically to create a logical, easy-to-follow structure. They should be broken up into distinct sections which focus on one main idea, while also allowing the reader to transition between each thought seamlessly. An effective paragraph transition should indicate when the discussion shifts from one topic to another. When it comes to paragraph dividers, there are a few key rules I like to follow. Firstly, paragraphs should never be too long - if they’re more than five or six lines long, then it’s probably time for a break! Secondly, sentences should flow naturally and logically with each other - this means that the end of one sentence should lead easily into the beginning of the next sentence. Finally, there should be no unnecessary repetition of words or phrases within a paragraph - if you find that you’re struggling to come up with different ways of expressing an idea then it’s time to move on!
