Tadao Ando is a Japanese architect who won the Pritzker Prize in 1995. Tadao Ando was born in Osaka, Japan on September 13, 1941. His life is legendary. He was a professional boxer before becoming an architect, and then a professional architect without proper training. Use the prize money earned from boxing matches to travel to the United States, Europe, Africa and Asia, as well as to observe unique buildings. At that time, his photographs were used in the works of the architect Louis Kahn.
After graduating from Osaka Polytechnic University, Tadao Ando traveled the world and taught himself architecture. In 1969, he founded Tadao Ando Architecture Studio. He designed many personal residences, which is located in Osaka, "long live auspicious の house" for a high evaluation, large-scale public buildings to small individual residential work, many times to get Japanese architecture awards. Works range from museums, recreation facilities, religious facilities, offices, etc., and are usually large scale buildings.
His fame began to accumulate rapidly as he published a succession of residential and commercial buildings made of plain concrete, generating buzz and discussion. Since then, he has developed his own unique architectural style: fair-faced concrete and geometric shapes, which earned him the reputation of "Fair-faced concrete Poet". In 1995, Mr. Ando won the Pritzker Prize, architecture’s highest honor, by donating $100,000 to orphans after the 1995 Kobe earthquake.
