The project that won the 1st Prize in the category of incomplete projects at the Hotel Show Awards 2018 in Athens is completed.
The hotel building is located in the "Top-Hana" district of the Old Town of Chania, with frontage to one of its most central streets. It is a three-storey building, characterized as a listed Venetian mansion of the 17th century, which used to be a residence. The architectural study addressed two important issues: the enhancement of the building's statics and the creation of a modern accommodation. The aim was to create four different rooms with a common decorative style.
Special features of the project are the stone hearth with the Venetian decoration that is incorporated into a room on the first floor, as well as the access to a private roof garden of one of the two rooms on the second floor. The furnishings of the rooms include open wardrobes and sofas that are not on free placement, but were designed to follow the masonry linearly, as it is an irregular room outline.
The design of the interiors of the accommodation refers to the luxury of the Venetian mansions. Materials such as marble and copper were chosen to dominate, for the luxury they give. With the textures of these materials, as well as wood, common to the whole proposal, the rooms are differentiated in terms of shades and individual constructions. The interior lighting of the premises is based on the use of mainly sconces, in order to distribute light evenly in all rooms, which are characterized by a large average height. Sconces were also chosen to be placed on the facades of the building, with the aim of highlighting its special architectural features.
