北京遇上墨西哥 | 探索两个首府城市之间的联系性

在2018年北京设计周期间，幻方旅设MSTDI旗下的泛艺术设计平台“有无设计”与墨西哥驻华大使馆、751D PARK携手共同打造北京设计周主题文化展之墨西哥主题文化馆——“PEK-MEX：从天地中央到月亮中央”，展览旨在于提出一条探索两个首府城市之间联系性的路线。展览以传统的墨西哥Loteria游戏为起点，设计师结合北京与墨西哥城之间的相似文化习俗和生活元素，设计了共54个图案符号，涵盖了包括建筑场所、美食、传统习俗、城市印象、文化教育及通勤方式等等细节。这些元素在使用方式、历史重要性以及美学价值都共享着相似之处。

The multicultural collective No Design / Design (有无设计) presented and coordinated by MSTDI (幻方旅设) in collaboration with the Mexican Embassy in China and 751D PARK, is presenting the exhibition PEK-MEX: from the Middle Kingdom to the Middle of the Moon in the frame of Beijing Design Week 2018, proposing an exploration route between these two capital cities. Taking the traditional Mexican game of Loteria as a starting point, the collective has developed 54 graphic icons representing food, traditions, buildings and urban elements that because of their use, historical or aesthetic value, share similarities between Beijing and Mexico City.

展览分为三个部分。在展览区我们向观众展示了各自代表北京和墨西哥的54个图案。它们相对而立，一侧为代表北京元素的红色图案，一侧为代表墨西哥城的黑色图案。观众通过扫描图标来获取动态视频信息。展览的第二部分为印章互动环节，游客在了解54个相互对应的元素之后，可以选择喜欢的图案进行印章互动，制作一张属于自己的印章图纸。而这张自制的印章图纸将会被使用到墨西哥传统Loteria游戏中。在第三部分的展览区，游客可以在两个城市的底图上找到对应的元素位置和相应的介绍信息。

▼设计概念，design concept

The exhibition is organized into three sections. The first one displays 27 icons for each city matching them together in facing walls. Here, the visitors can scan the icons or their QR codes to discover information embedded into them. In the second part, the icons have been transformed into stamps, allowing visitors to choose among them to create a customized board to play Loteria. Finally, participants can find maps for each city with the location of each urban element, plus complementary written information and the screening of videos related to each icon.

有趣的建筑和地点 | Place

▲2008年的北京奥运会带给大家许多美好的记忆，其中最独特的就是被大家亲切地称为“鸟巢”的奥运会场馆。其实并不是只有中国人民喜欢给体育场馆取有趣的昵称，远在墨西哥城，这里也有一座特别的奥运体育场馆，由于形状形似火山，而被墨西哥人民亲切地称呼为“火山”。The Olympic Stadium in Beijing has been nicknamed as Bird’s Nest due to its close similarity, nonetheless, the original concept was based on a specific kind of traditional Chinese pottery. The Olympic Stadium in Mexico City was built to host the games of 1968. It belongs to the National Autonomous University of Mexico, and its shape resembles very much to the nearby volcanoes.

The new CCTV Headquarters designed by Dutch architect Rem Koolhass has earned the tag The Trousers for its uncanny resemblance to this garment.  Sometimes buildings can resemble other objects. Arcos Bosque, a mixed-use building, designed by Mexican architect Teodoro Gonzalez its known by users and passersby as The Pants.

▲“四合院”是北京最具有代表性的院落空间，它体现的不仅仅是一种建筑形态，更是一种温馨而亲近的居住氛围和生活方式。胡同里的四合院就像是北京的一张独特的名片，吸引着来自国内外的游客。而墨西哥城也有类似的生活社区——被称为Vecindad的“邻里公寓”。这种社区同样拥有共享庭院，为邻居的日常生活交流提供了熟悉而休闲的环境。由于体现了最接地气的墨西哥生活日常，Vecindad经常出现在墨西哥电影、肥皂剧和电视节目之中。Beijing Courtyards represent one of the most recognizable features of the city. It reflects not only a strong architectural character but also a warm and close living atmosphere and lifestyle. These courtyards are organized along alleys that work as an extension of the inner space, used by their inhabitants to socialize. Vecindades are clusters of small apartments sharing common patios. The proximity with neighboors creates a familiar and casual environment. These residential solutions can be found in Mexico City Down Town and are the scenario of a lot fo Mexican movies, soap operas and tv shows.

▲在墨西哥有一条当选“世界上最神奇的十大街道”之一的“改革大道”Reforma，它连接着查普尔特佩克城堡与市中心，沿途坐落着国家宫殿、独立天使像及各种著名地标建筑物，同时分布着众多奢华酒店和购物商场，是游客游览墨西哥城必去的旅游景点。而在北京建国门外大街上，同样有一片京城首屈一指的黄金商业地带——“国贸商圈”。作为京城商务中心区最核心的地段，国贸拥有林立的商厦、酒店和众多标志性建筑物，以繁华的高层建筑及其独特的建筑设计外观，不断地重塑着北京的天际线。Guomao is a rapid growing Central Business District where big international companies have installed their headquarters in China. The number of high-rise buildings and their very distinctive architectural designs is constantly re-shaping Beijing’s skyline. Reforma Avenue is one of the most important financial centers not just in Mexico City but in Latin America. It was built to link the Chapultepec Castle with the city’s downtown. Now it is a place thriving with venues and activities that attract all kinds of people.

▲“太和殿”俗称金銮殿，是坐落在北京紫禁城中轴线上的一座仪式性建筑。它被认为是中国古代宫殿建筑的精华代表，拥有着极高的建筑规制和精妙的装饰手法。明清重大典礼如皇帝登极、大婚等，都要在这举行。墨西哥同样有一座重要的祭祀加冕神殿——阿兹特克文化时期的“大神庙”。这里曾经是供奉着雨神和战神的金字塔形神庙，是阿兹特克文化最有价值的文物宝库。但神庙不幸已遭摧毁，如今只有遗址留存，是窥探墨西哥璀璨历史文明的一个重要窗口。

The Hall of Supreme Harmony is a ceremonial building located at the center axis of the Forbidden City. It is known to be the largest surviving wooden structure in China and was used mainly to discuss state affairs. Templo Mayor was the main ceremonial building in Mexico City before the Spanish arrival. It was devoted to Huitzilopochtli, god of war, represented by a hummingbird and to Tlaloc, god of rain and agriculture, represented by rain drops.

▲中国国家大剧院由法国设计师保罗·安德鲁主持设计，是中国国家艺术表演的殿堂。大剧院主体结构是一座半圆形穹顶建筑，围绕着一池清澈见底的湖水及大片绿地花木，仿佛一颗优雅的天鹅蛋漂浮于湖面之上，因而被人们形象地称为“天鹅蛋”。而墨西哥则调皮地把一座体育场馆Palacio de los deportes称呼为“刺猬”，这座曾经作为奥运会篮球排球比赛场馆的体育场拥有巨大的穹顶，上覆尖尖的铜片，与刺猬的外观非常相像。The National Center for the Performing Arts (NCPA) is an art center that hosts in its interior an opera hall, a music hall, and a theater, all together with a capacity for more than 5000 people. Its exterior is cover with titanium, and because of its particular shape, it’s known as the Swan’s Egg. The Palace of Sports was built to host the basketball matches for the 1968 Olympic Games. Its huge dome spans over 115 meters and is cover with spiky copper sheets that give him a strong hedgehog look.

独特的美食 | Food

▲Pozole“玉米肉汤”是墨西哥的特色传统菜肴，起源可以追溯到阿兹特克帝国时期。每逢重大节日或是家庭活动，它都会出现在每个墨西哥百姓的餐桌上。制作时用猪肉或鸡肉浓汤作为基底，再加上香草、椒酱、肉块和玉米粒等其他配料，听起来非常像老北京喜闻乐见的“炸酱面”。作为典型的北京主食，炸酱面的特色就是调制的炸酱，搭配黄瓜、萝卜和葱等蔬菜构成一碗香气扑鼻的面食。

Zhajiang Noodles are a dish easily found in Beijing consisting of thick wheat noodles and a soybean paste. Usually, they are garnished with sliced cucumber, radish, and spring onion. Pozole is a Mexican traditional dish made with corn kernels and pork. It can be found very easily around the city and its origing can be trace down to the Aztec Empire period.

▲说起墨西哥美食，大家的第一印象都是这种包裹着馅料的玉米饼——被称之为“Taco”的墨西哥“卷饼”。而在北京也有一种常见的街头美食——“煎饼”，同样也是包裹着馅料的卷饼，但是它的饼身是用薄薄的小麦面糊制成，里面包裹着鸡蛋、香菜、辣椒酱和酥脆的薄脆。这两种饼虽然外形略有不同，但都酥香可口，很受两城老百姓喜欢。

Jianbing is a street food popular in Beijing. It is made with a thin layer of wheat batter similar to a crepe and filled with egg, coriander, chili sauce, and a crispy fried cracker.  Tacos are the staple dish from Mexico, and Mexico City is perhaps the best place to eat them. This dish is made with a corn or wheat tortilla, rolled around all kinds of fillings. They are good to eat any time of the day.

▲“北冰洋”是一种在北京餐馆里很常见的汽水。细长的玻璃瓶中装着橙黄色的橘子味汽水，冒着快乐的气泡，对小孩来说它通常伴随着快乐的童年记忆。而墨西哥城的小朋友喜爱的是另外一种叫“小个子”Chaparrita的饮料，这种同样是水果味的软饮被装在可爱的玻璃瓶里，因而被亲切地称为“小个子”。Bei Bing Yang or Arctic Ocean is an orange flavored soda commonly found in Beijing local restaurants. It is often associated with happy childhood memories. Chaparrita means Shorty, and it’s the name that local consumers gave to this fruit flavored drink because of the shape of its bottle. Since 1953 is a typical soft drink of Mexico City.

▲两城人民都有一种需要特殊盛倒方式的热饮——“茶汤”和“蒸汽奶咖”Café con leche。茶汤是北京传统的调味热饮，采用大铜壶从高处倾倒热水的方式来冲开浓稠的茶面。而奶咖是墨西哥城的一种特殊的咖啡，利用高处倾倒牛奶的方式来形成白色的奶泡。Chatang is a seasoned thick hot beverage sold as a snack in the streets of Beijing. It is easy to identify because they use extremely large kettles and a particular style of serving it. Café con leche or Coffee with Milk is a favorite drink of Mexico City people. Traditionally, it is poured from a high distance in a tall glass cup procuring to create a white delicious foam.

传统文化与习俗 | Culture and Custom

▲从古至今，中国人都认为自己是“龙”的传人。龙的形象与力量及权利紧紧联系在一起，既是一种上古神兽，也是中国人心中代表正义和力量的图腾。在墨西哥的古代神话中，也有一种与龙非常类似的神明“羽蛇”Quetzalcoatl。这是一种长着羽毛，身形似蛇的生物，墨西哥人相信它是人类的创造者。它的图腾出现在各种祭祀文化中，受到人们的尊敬和供奉。

The ancient Chinese identified themselves as the descendants of the Dragon. Since then, its shape and characteristics have been associated with strength and power. In our days its image is repeated in an endless amount of products and representations. Quetzalcoatl or the Feathered Serpent is a god with a history of more than 2000 years. It was believed that he was the creator of humankind. Nowadays his image can be seen in all kinds of graphic representations.

▲“抖空竹”是一种典型的杂耍活动。空竹由一个哑铃状的结构和一根绳子组成，通过绳子和轴带的拉扯形成动力，可以不断地把空竹抛到空中再接住。这种有趣的技艺玩具不仅受到孩子的欢迎，也得到许多成年人的喜爱。而墨西哥版的杯球玩具叫做“抛接球”Balero，它由一个彩色的纺锤木桶和棍子组成。游戏的目标是将木桶抛起并让其落下立在木棍上。这种玩具既是一种有趣的消遣方式，也是一件美丽的手工艺品。Kongzhu, better known as Diabolo, is a typical juggling toy consisting of two discs linked by an axis that is tossed into the air to be caught by a string attached to two hand sticks. Before popular with Beijing kids now is more frequently used by grown-ups. Balero is the Mexican version of the cup-and-ball toy. It consists of a colorful wood barrel attached with a cord to a stick. The goal is to get the barrel onto the stick. This toy is both a fun way to spend the time and a beautiful handicraft.

▲京剧是北京极具特色的传统戏剧，是一种综合了音乐、声乐、舞蹈于各种情节中的表演。演出中演员身着精心制作的戏服，并绘制各色各样精致的“京剧脸谱”。每种脸谱的颜色和图案都有特定含义，配合着不同的故事情节和人物角色。“格斗面具”Lucha Libre是一种运用于墨西哥自由式摔跤的彩色面具。为了配合这项戏剧性的运动，每个摔跤手都定制了属于自己的独特面具，通过添加图案和颜色，创造出奇幻的角色。Peking Opera is a performance that mixes music, vocal performance and dance in a variety of plots. They use elaborated costumes in the performances and they pay special attention to the design of their masks. Each color and pattern represents a specific meaning in the development of the plots. Lucha Libre or Freestyle Wrestling is a theatrical sport characterized by the use of colorful masks and complicated combination of attack movements. Each wrestler customizes its mask adding patterns and colors to create fantastical characters.

▲在北京公园和广场，每到夜晚都能看到许多跳着欢快“广场舞”的人群，这已经形成了一种中国特有的流行娱乐方式。这项活动吸引了越来越多的人，现在男性、情侣还有小孩都加入了跳广场舞的大军。在墨西哥城的公共广场上，同样能经常见到各个年龄层的人们聚在一起跳“丹泽舞”Danzon。这种双人舞最初来自古巴，但在很久以前就传入墨西哥城并深受人们喜爱。Square dancing is a popular way of entertainment in the public parks and plazas of Beijing. Most evenings, women will gather together to perform dance routines to different rhythms. More and more other people have been attracted by these dances and now is common to see men, couples and even kids performing. In the public squares along the city, it’s common for people of all ages to get together at evening to have fun while dancing Danzon. This couple dance is originally from Cuba but since long ago adopted by people in Mexico City.

▲北京和墨西哥城都是两个被山体包围的城市，这种特殊的地形导致空气的流通不畅而极易形成雾霾盘踞。为了解决空气问题，1989年以来墨西哥城实施了一系列改善空气质量的环境计划，其中包括“尾号限行”政策，根据车牌最后一个数字限定禁开，使工作日的汽车流通量减少20％。北京同样在这方面作出了许多的努力，除了引入道路限行外，还采取了“北京牌”限牌政策，在减少汽车尾气排放方面取得了巨大的成果。Road space rationing in Beijing was introduced in the city in 2008 for the Olympic Games to reduce the levels of air pollution. After confirming the success of the program, it was permanently implemented with great outcomes in reducing the levels of vehicle emissions. Since 1989 Mexico City implemented an environmental program to improve its air quality, it consists of decreasing car circulation by 20% from Monday to Friday depending on the last digit of the license plates.

▲长廊在北京的公园中很常见，天坛、景山公园都有这种装饰精致的长廊。现如今，这些长廊除了成为旅游景点外，更多的是为本地居民提供了聚会、唱歌、唱戏、演奏乐器的场所，成了名副其实的“戏廊”。而对能歌善舞的墨西哥城人民来说，这种具有文化艺术功能的公共空间尤为重要，在每个公共广场中央他们都会设立一个“乐亭”Kiosco Morisco，作为社区举办文化活动的空间，让艺术家拥有演出交流的场所。Long Corridors are a frequent element in Beijing parks. Besides protecting from the weather, they give space for locals to get together to play games, tell stories, sing and play musical instruments. Kioscos are small pavilions located in the middle of public plazas all around Mexico. They host cultural activities for the community and give shelter to musicians that perform on weekends.

城市记忆 | City Memory

▲北京的“天安门”可以算得上是北京的心脏，它位于北京环状布局的正中心，是全国老百姓的向往，每天在这里举行的升旗降旗仪式吸引着许许多多游客的观赏。而 Zocalo“宪法广场”则可以称得上是墨西哥的天安门广场，它是世界上面积仅次于天安门广场、莫斯科红场外的第三大广场。广场的标志是广场中间的一根旗杆，上面飘扬着巨大的墨西哥国旗，每天都会在这里举行隆重的升旗和降旗仪式。

Tiananmen is one of the top ten largest city squares in the world. Because of its history and the buildings surrounding it is an important civic and government symbol not only for Beijing but also for all China. The Zocalo is one of the largest city squares in the world and the civic center of Mexico City life. People gather here to commemorate all kinds of celebrations and to enjoy multiple cultural events.

▲“科瑶坎”Coyoacan是墨西哥最古老的街区之一，同时也是墨城南部的文化中心。到了周末这里便变得热闹拥挤，无数的餐厅、咖啡馆、书店和酒吧以及赏心悦目的花园和广场，为游客展现了一个地道的墨西哥。“大栅栏”是北京传统的商业空间，现在依旧保留着最正宗的老北京氛围，茶店、街头小吃以及无尽的胡同在等待游客去发掘。新潮文化创意的植入为这里注入了活力，使其成为现代与传统相结合的文化艺术区。

Dashilar is a traditional neighborhood at the South West of Tiananmen. It sill preserves some of the most authentic  Old Beijing atmospheres, with tea shops, street food and endless lines of Hutongs to be discovered by visitors. Coyoacán is perhaps one of the most traditional neighborhoods in Mexico City. Here, architecture, food, colors, public plazas and gardens get togehter to offer residents and visitors an authentic mexican.

▲“北海”作为一个公园，曾是皇家园林的一部分，拥有一个美丽的湖泊。几乎每个中国人都会唱的一首《让我们荡起双桨》的歌，描绘的就是在北海划船泛舟的景象。远在墨西哥城的查普尔特佩克森林是拉丁美洲最大的城市公园之一，其中人工湖“查湖”是其最受欢迎的景点。市民们通常喜欢在这里租用可爱的天鹅脚踏船，享受在森林湖泊中泛舟的时光。Beihai is a public park that used to be part of the imperial gardens. At its core, there is a lake that covers more than half of the entire park. It is common for Beijing people to go to the lake to rent small boats and to spend the day strolling around the park. Chapultepec Forest in one of the largest urban parks in Latin America, among all its attractions the artificial lake is one of the most popular. The Lake, as is known by citizens, offers paddleboats and small rowboats for visitors to rent.

▲来北京游玩的年轻旅客必定要到“南锣鼓巷”去打卡。作为胡同里的购物步行街，这里拥有各种有趣的纪念品、酒店、小餐馆和街头小吃。每到周末或节假日，这条狭窄的小胡同里摩肩擦踵难以穿行。“马德罗街”是一条位于墨西哥城历史城区的步行街，它连接着宪法广场和墨西哥城最受欢迎的花园。在这条街上，人们可以找到咖啡店、餐厅、博物馆和各种商店，使得它成为居民和游客最喜欢的地方。Nanluoguxiang is the shopping pedestrian street for excellence in Beijing. All kinds of street food can be found there besides souvenirs, bars, and small restaurants. Weekends and special days it’s so crowded that is difficult to find a way through. Calle Madero (Madero Street) is a pedestrian street in the core of the historic center. It connects the Zócalo with the Alameda Central (one of the most visited gardens in Mexico City) In this street, people can find coffee shops, restaurants, museums and any kind of stores, making it one of the favorite places for residents and visitors.

▲每到春天，北京被漫天盛开的淡粉色樱花覆盖。人们都欢乐地换上春装，带着家人和朋友到公园里欣赏短暂的樱花季。而在墨西哥城，这里遍地栽种着美丽的蓝花楹，一到秋天，这里便成为了淡紫色的海洋，盛开的蓝花楹树及被落花覆盖的道路，使整个墨西哥城笼罩在淡紫色的浪漫花海里。

In Springtime Beijing is covered by the light pink of the Cherries blossoming. It is a spectacular event that attracts people from all North of China to witness their beauty. Even though it lasts for a short period, it has an everlasting effect on people ’s memories. Jacaranda is a beautiful large tree that gives a small light purple flower. When in season, Mexico City is transformed by the color of these trees while blooming, and afterward when the streets are covered by the fallen flowers.

文化和教育 | Culture and Education

▲“北大”是全中国最卓著杰出的学府之一，也是每一个中国学生追求奋斗的梦想。除了作为高等学府外，它还以拥有中国传统园林和美丽建筑的校园而闻名。它最标志性的景观便是未名湖和未名塔。在墨西哥城也有这样一所“墨大”——墨西哥国立自治大学(UNAM)，它以广泛的研究和创新项目在世界上名列前茅。2007年，因其建筑学、城市、景观和工程质量，该校被宣布为联合国教科文组织世界遗产。Peking University or Beida is one of the most distinguished and prominent educational institutions in all China. Besides its high education standards, it is known for its beautiful campus that hosts traditional Chinese gardens and beautiful architecture. The National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) is a highly ranked university in the world based on its extensive research and innovation programs. Its campus was declared UNESCO World Heritage in 2007 because of its architectonic, urban, landscape and engineering quality.

▲“央美”即中央美术学院的一个大型美术馆，这里展出了许多不同风格的优秀艺术作品，同时定期举办各种巡回展出和研习班。每年到毕业季，它还会用来展示应届毕业生的优秀作品，吸引了大量的专业和非专业游客前来参观。墨西哥大学的当代艺术博物馆“艺博”（MUAC）同样也是一个位于学校里的大型艺术博物馆，它以举办高质量的展览和策展工作而闻名。

The Central Academy of Fine Arts or CAFA possesses a large art museum mainly devoted to rotating exhibitions. It has gained popularity because it also hosts conferences and workshops promoting experimental approaches to the arts.  The University Museum of Contemporary Art (MUAC) is a large museum on the campus of the National Autonomous University of Mexico. It is renowned for the high quality of the exhibitions it has hosted and because of its curatorial work.

▲中国国家图书馆“国图”是国内最大的图书馆，藏书丰富、品类齐全。它的建筑采用了螺旋式主庭，意在创建一个概念性的形象，将过去、现在和未来作为不断融合的元素连接起来。市民喜欢在周末来到这个独特的图书馆自习看书，感受文化氛围。“墨国图”Vasconcelos图书馆是墨西哥城最大、令人印象最深刻的图书馆之一。它被媒体称为“百万图书馆”，它的形象经常与迷宫般的书籍联系在一起。在它的大厅里挂着一副鲸鱼骨架，这是由著名的墨西哥艺术家Gabriel Orozco创作的一件艺术品。

The National Library of China underwent a massive extension finished in 2009. Its spiral-kind main atrio has the intention to create a conceptual image linking past, present, and future as elements that are constantly merging. Vasconcelos Library is one of the largest and more impressive libraries in Mexico City. It was labeled as The Megalibrary by the press, and its image is often associated with a labyrinth of books. On its lobby, it has a suspended whale skeleton, an art piece by renowned Mexican artist Gabriel Orozco.

通勤交通方式 | Public Transportation

▲近年来，“共享单车”系统在中国尤其是北京蓬勃发展，它们在无桩、GPS定位、app协助系统上的创新，正在彻底改变中国乃至世界的城市交通。“乐比驰”EcoBici是自2010年起由墨西哥城政府发起的自行车共享系统。它拥有特有的红白色自行车，每天为超过25000人次的墨西哥市民提供低碳便捷的通勤方式。Bicycle sharing systems have had a boom in China and especially in Beijing. The innovation of their systems with dockless options, GPS location, and app assistance is revolutionizing urban mobility in China and beyond. EcoBici is a bicycle sharing system provided by Mexico City’s government since 2010. It has characteristic red and white bicycles, and it registers more than 25,000 daily trips.

▲这两座城市的人民同样都有快捷方便的市民交通方式——“三轮车”和“计程单车（Bicitaxi）”。这两种便捷交通方式既有相似的长相，又有相同的功能，均能携带乘客快速地穿过城市拥堵车流，实现短途通勤。北京版本的三轮车有着方正的铁皮外形，而墨西哥城版本的Bicitaxi则是一颗绿色的鸡蛋状的小车，拥有Q萌的外表。Sanlun, Tuk-tuk or Rikshaw, this kind of urban transportation allows Beijing citizens to cover short trips in a fast way. They are often used as “last mile” transportation connecting people from transportation hubs to their final destinations. Bicitaxi is a transportation method frequently used in Mexico City’s downtown. It is human-powered activated by pedaling, and it is meant to cover the demand of short rides at the same time that decongests the traffic flow.

▲北京“地铁”是一个庞大的地下交通系统，共计22条线路、370个车站以及超过608.2公里的铁轨线，每天在北京城每个角落穿行，日运送量超过1000万人次，并且以创纪录的速度在不断扩张。

墨西哥城地铁“墨铁”规模相对要小一些，共计12条线路、195个车站以及226.5公里铁轨，每天运送超过450万人次。在地铁里，人们可以找到商店、药店、小吃摊和其他服务，使得墨铁独立成一个地下小城市。

Beijing Subway has 22 lines, 370 stations, 608.2 km, and moves more than 10 million people every day. It has been expanded in a record time, opened in 1969 it has reached its actual size mainly from 2001 to 2018.  Mexico City Metro, has 12 lines, 195 stations, 226.5 km, and moves more than 4.5 million people every day. In its tunnels, people can find stores, pharmacies, food stands and other services transforming the system in a whole city by itself

展览的副标题“从天地中央到月亮中央”饱含深意，指的是从天地中央的大国（中国）到月亮中央的墨西哥（Mexico在前哥伦比亚语言中，原意指月亮的中心）。为了强调这两个城市之间的联系，我们为每个城市创造了一个角色：朱小燕Yaya，一个身着沙燕服饰的北京女孩，她的名字包含了两个属于北京的传统元素：“朱”代表了朱红色， “燕”代表了沙燕风筝；墨小虎Momo，一个身着美洲虎服饰的墨西哥城男孩，他的名字中的“墨”象征着墨西哥的传统色彩——黑色，“虎”代表了美洲特有的美洲虎。他们将带领游客一起体验图形元素和Loteria游戏，并带领观众一起探索两个城市。通过重复使用北京的朱红色和墨西哥城的墨黑色、两座城市各自风格化的图标元素、用来玩Loteria游戏的印章以及Yaya和Momo的形象，有无设计在PEK-MEX展览中寻找到一条紧密联系两个差异化城市的方法。

From the Middle Kingdom to the Middle of the Moon was chosen as the exhibition subtitle in order to acknowledge the extensive history of both cities. Beijing as ancient imperial capital represents the Middle Kingdom, and Mexico in the original pre-Columbian language means Place at the Center of the Moon. To emphasize the connection between these cities, the collective created one character for each: Yaya, a girl from Beijing wearing a swallow bird custom and Momo, a boy from Mexico city with a Mexican jaguar suit. Both of them take visitors on a journey to discover their cities through the graphic icons and the game of Loteria. By the repetitive use of red for Beijing and black for Mexico City, the stylized icons representing the utmost recognizable characteristics of each city’s daily life, the stamps to play Loteria and the presence of Yaya and Momo, No Design / Design with PEK-MEX finds a way to bring close together two cities despite their distance and cultural differences.
