BETWEEN THE FOLDS “折叠之间”从折叠之间到人本之间From the folds to people

ARMATURE，在雕塑艺术中指用于构造形体的骨架。而在景观设计中，ARMATURE能够承载更加丰富的意义和信息。它是串联设计要素的核心框架、解决场地问题的联系媒介，形式语言的生成机制。Karen M'Closkey & Keith VanDerSys两位宾大教授，常常在教学和项目实践中提及并运用这一方法——通过图像-抽象-变奏-立体化，演绎二维图像转化为出发点，组织系统性空间（organization），从而探索从抽象线条到具象空间的潜力。在这一过程中，空间关系、景观元素、材质工艺都在统一的框架基底上创造丰富的变化。这一理念让我们可以用更抽离和系统的视角去看待场地条件，并重组。“动态”也是我们在设计中赋予ARMATURE的另一层意义。希望能够以变化、延展的方式，将框架贯穿于各个尺度的组织关系中。ARMATURE, in sculpture, refers to the skeleton used to construct the body. In landscape design, ARMATURE can carry more meaning and information. It can be a core framework for connecting design elements, a medium for solving site problems, or a generating mechanism for formal language. “Dynamic" is another layer we add to ARMATURE in design. Between the Folds 折叠之间“折叠之间”是我们践行“动态框架”理念的一次探索。“折”作为这个项目的核心策略机制，不仅是科技感的线性转译，更是解决高差、创造空间层叠错落的设计线索。"Between the Folds" is an exploration of this "Dynamic Frame" concept. 项目位于济南市历城区雪山片区，是“环大学一公里创新生态圈”的重要科技展示窗口。不过，与大多数新城片区一样，其本身并不具备历史文脉等信息，反而是其不断变化的竖向高差条件引发了我们的思考。我们希望在这里创造一个错落的公共空间，让不利的侧向界面高差衔接消隐其间。The project is located in Xueshan District, Jinan City. It's an important window for the "One-Kilometer Innovation Ring". However, like most new development  districts, it does not have historical context. Meanwhile, its constantly changing height levels aroused our thinking. We hope to create a series of scattered public spaces through our site, so the separation between different height levels can be re-connected in an interesting way.竖向高差条件 Site Elevations Analysis  by THLA 不论场地大小，始终从城市角度进行思考，一直以来是我们的目标。通过景观为市民、城市创造价值。场地西侧是一个约2000㎡的市政绿地。面积不大，却是展厅与城市沟通的唯一空间。在经过多轮不懈努力的沟通，终于有机会能够打破原本单一的绿化带格局，创造一个开放、公共的市民活动广场。Regardless of the scale of site, it has always been our goal to think from a more urban perspective, and use landscape to create value for the citizens and the city.On the west side of the site, there is a municipal green space of about 2000㎡ . This area is small, but it's the only space for us to communicate with the city. Therefore, we would like to maximize this crucial public room. After many rounds of unremitting communication, we were finally able to change the original barren green belt and create an open and public plaza for civic activities. 功能分区  Design Program Analysis by THLA折叠之间-展示中心框架草图 "Between the Folds" - Boot Area Concept Plan by THLA在这里，“折”不止是设计概念或设计语言，更成为了组织整个场地空间关系的手段。开合变化的空间序列自西向东逐步折叠、凝聚，形成交织错落的变换。伴由每一次错动行进视线也此起彼伏，使得被观察的人群活动、植物群落、建筑主体成为不同阶段的主角。从地面一直延伸至立面的线性，不仅成为线索串联、统一了景墙、座椅、铺地等各个尺度的景观元素，更是打破平立界限的“光”，向外延展。Here, "folding" is a way to organize the spatial relationship through the entire site.  It defines the constantly changing spatial sequence of open and enclosure where gradually folded and condensed from west to east, forming an intertwined and scattered spatial transformation. Walking through this journey, spatial theme is changing with every staggered movement. And linear elements extending from the ground to the wall,  are not only the clues to connect space segments, but also the light beams that break the boundary between plan and facade.设计效果 Design Overview by THLA场地漫游体验 Walking Experiences @冠筑摄影

Bizarre Triangle 异三角场地通过折叠同时带来了空间分形，细分的铺地以45度三角网格为基础，成为了梳理整个场地设计模数的基本策略。三角形的稳定性和跳色的灵动性形成了区域性的反差变化，界定了动静与功能划分的边界。细致、严谨的工匠们将复杂的肌理拼缝处理得规整有序，在不同的光线照射下，又呈现出灵动的基底。向他们致敬！Paving system is based on a 45-degree triangular grid, which has become the basic strategy for sorting out the design modulus of the entire site.  We also pay special tribute to the meticulous and rigorous construction team, whose disdainful efforts ensured the beautiful paving pattern, showing a flexible texture under different light conditions.铺地肌理 Paving Textures@冠筑摄影在景墙设计上，我们抛弃了常用的钢板，石材挂板取而代之，横竖宽度不一的分缝，形成了有秩序、更有颗粒感的竖向界面。虽然在配重、斜向交接、海棠角工艺上增加了一定的施工难度，但石材的质感和耐久性都为场地从平面到立面的层次感和整体性，频添了一份永恒。Retaining walls also extend the linear feeling by differing the horizontal and vertical seam widths. Super Speed Light 超线灯在灯光选择上，我们摒弃了“均好性”的灯光布置，提出并强化“超线灯”（Super speed light）概念，试图将依附的2D的网格在3D空间中进行线索性和时间性的4D抽离，这种“抽离感”（detaching）将错落、摆动的各个空间和进一步拉结，也使得被高差打断的视觉场域可以轻松通过想象力（脑补）相接并无限延续。(墙面超线灯仍在施工过程中)As a extension of the grid frame, the super-line light strip further ties the scattered and swinging spaces. Urban Wildness 城市野境植物是感知四季变化的媒介，也是动态的景观与大多数“隽永性”设计的核心区别。因此，我们希望场地的植被氛围是动态的、自然的、亲近的。雪松、吉野樱、朴树作为乔木骨架，形成四季不同的林相变化；地被则以自然主义花境结合观赏草创造出“城市野境”。Plants are the medium through which we perceive the changes of the seasons. Therefore, we hope the planting atmosphere to be dynamic, natural and intimate. The arbor layer is based on cedar, Yoshino cherry and zelkova, forming a colorful planting skyline through different seasons.Ground cover is combined with naturalistic flower borders and ornamental grasses to create an "urban wildness". 城市野境Urban Wildness @冠筑摄影

Between the People 人本之间随着场地的开放，我们也很欣喜地看到不同使用人群为这个小公共空间注入了活力。尤其是自由的孩子们，总是可以打破预设、突破想象，让各个空间都被充分利用，让每个景观元素都充满生命力。With the opening of this project, we are so delighted that different groups of users have injected vitality into this small public space. “折叠之间”作为“动态框架”（ARMATURE）的一次实践，试图多维度去统一和串联显性与隐性的设计逻辑。我们也将持续探索，为每一块场地带去更动态、更丰富的体验。As a practice of the "ARMATURE" design concept, "Between Folds" attempts to form a multi-dimensional unified framework to connect explicit and implicit design logic. We expect this concept to be further explored, and we will continue to bring more dynamic and richer experiences to each site.
