World Smile Day, also known as International Smile Day, is the only day to celebrate the expression of human behavior established by the World Mental Health Organization in 1948. It is on May 8 every year.

"Smile Slowly" is the last diary written by British director Derek Jarman before his death. It records his profound thoughts on life, art, illness and love when his physical condition gradually deteriorated and his creative ability gradually declined after he was seriously ill.

Jarman left a poetic title for his final diary, "Smile Slowly." The phrase comes from a sentence he wrote: "In a scene in Sebastian, he surfaced and slowly smiled." It is also a summary of Jarman's life. If you read slowly, even if you don't know much about Jarman's works, you can see in these slowly written sentences a man full of vitality: he has written down his love of life, his understanding of art, his calm about illness, and his yearning for friends.

英国肯特郡Dungeness的海边，与核电站近在咫尺，没有草坪跟复杂的造型，花草与核反应堆相伴，玫瑰随风暴起舞。贾曼将这座小屋称作“愿景小屋”，在生命的最后，他买下这片地方，将原本贫瘠悲凉的滩涂建造成一座美丽的花园，

贾曼自称他培育出了一批“坚强的植物”。而与他亲手栽培出的坚强的植物一样，他也是坚强的，

直到最后一刻。

他的天赋与热情，向世人证明：内心丰盈的人，即便是荒芜之地，也能发现它的美，将它变成天堂般的花园。

多年以后的今天，我们翻开《慢慢微笑》，还是能够轻易感受到贾曼温柔的凝视：他像过去一样，带着健康的身体，时不时地透过胶片、画作、文字的缝隙，对着这个他深深爱过的世界，慢慢地绽放出一丝微笑。

Jarman has a garden, on the coast of Dungeness, Kent, close to the nuclear power station. Instead of lawns and intricate shapes, plants and nuclear reactors accompany them, and roses dance with the storm. At the end of his life, Jarman, who called it the "Vision House", bought the site and turned the barren and sad mudflats into a beautiful garden. Jarman said he had developed a collection of "tough plants". And as strong as the plant he had grown, he was strong until the very end.

His gift and passion proved to the world that a full heart can find beauty in a desolate place and turn it into a heavenly garden. Many years later, when we open Smile Slowly, it is still easy to feel Jarman's gentle gaze: as in the past, with his healthy body, from time to time, through the cracks of film, painting and writing, he slowly smiles at the world he deeply loved.
