Cirera + Espinet have recently set up shop in Barcelona. The interior architecture and design firm have set out to show the world the type of interiors they create by giving their new 100 square metre studio some C+E love. The two founders, both women, established the brand in 2013 and have been working on large scale residential and commercial projects. “Our office is our best letter of introduction,” said the duo.
They were looking to create a space based on contrasts. Rich, deep blue, velvet curtains hang elegantly from the exposed white washed, curved rafters. Their meeting area doubles as a break out space. The pale, roughly finished oak long table sits side by side with a heavy damask fabric covered couch. They’ve gone for a rich palette here, bright orange walls, blue concrete resin flooring and patchwork of timber panelling. But it’s the white painted walls and that beautifully detailed white ceiling that helps navigate the plethora of fabric choices and bold colours. “The white colour from the height of the windows is to emphasise and reflect the vegetation and light of the exterior as part of the interior,” said the designers.
They’ve divided the open plan space into two sections, the work area and the communal spaces. Predominantly they have used furniture selection to act as the visual boundaries between the areas. “The layout was diaphanous, and we have created two atmospheres through the furniture. The working space is made of long tables and a perimeter furniture for showing the samples. The meeting area & chill out in the same space and a small office hidden behind the curtains,” they noted.

It’s an eclectic space. Oversized mirrors are propped up against walls. Leafy green plants in terracotta pots sit on the bluest of blue floors. An orange 1960’s mushroom lamp sits perched on the reception desk whilst concrete linear lighting hangs over the wooden desking. Candelabras with crystal teardrops, scented candles, bespoke wallpaper and art work abound in this studio. It’s hard to know where to train your eye to look next.
There’s a freedom, a liveliness to this space. And no doubt it is a fun and creative space to work in. But moreover, it expresses the quirkiness inherent in Cirera + Espinet designs. Their quirkiness is not without sophistication though – it’s not random or clumsy. It’s a lovely blend of joyful colour use and material and furniture selection. As a calling card, it certainly does the job.
